Residents in the Macomb County area are now dealing with the aftermath of damages that have come due to severe storms that hit the area hard on Monday afternoon. Cars were left stranded, streets flooded, and many motorists had to leave their cars as torrential rains turned roads into rivers. The area of St. Clair Shores was the area that was hit the hardest, according to local news reports. Parking lots, cars, and even shopping carts were flooded after the storm dumped heavy rains. This rain was consistent for 30 straight minutes, and this was near the 9 mile and Harper area.
Many residents that lived in the affected area began trying to recover the storm drains that had been covered with debris as cars struggled to make their way through the flooded roads, and some cars didn’t even make it.
Neighbors worked to free drains covered with debris, and cars struggled to drive through the flooded roads. Some didn’t make it. This storm led to warnings being put out for the greater Macomb County area. This heavy rain caused a lot of issues, and it wasn’t just the streets that were flooding. One resident of St. Clair Shores stated that her basement completely flooded out. She wasn’t the only resident that experienced this though, as several streets in St. Clair Shores flooded too, including Marter, Edgewood, greater Mack, and Edmonton were just a few of the many.
Many motorists tried to make their way through the flooded streets thinking that it wouldn’t be that deep, but it was. This caused them to leave their cars, as they wouldn’t make it through. Many streets looked like there was a block party, but it was just residents trying to get back to their homes in the forms of riding, rafting, and even running through the flooded streets.
According to the local police, many streets that are southward of Ten Mile are still covered with water as three inches of rain poured down within one hour. Flooding has also been reported on Harper near Jefferson Road, along with many other side streets that felt Mother Nature’s wrath. The police also added that the city’s department of Public Works is trying to address the flooding disaster. In the meantime, if you encounter a street that is flooded, do not attempt to drive through it. The police are also working to help with the issue of many stranded vehicles that are just sitting on the streets.
